Material information:

Nordkynd is the manufacturer of this product. All raw materials and substances, such as containers, keychains, resin, etc., were purchased in Germany from German companies and therefore meet all quality standards.

Sources of danger with resin

• Sources of danger with resin only occur during production.
• Harmful vapors, which are present in some types of resin due to chemicals, have long since been absent from the finished, cured products.
• We have had all our resin products tested by the health department, and they are officially approved for food contact because there are no longer any harmful substances in the product.
• If very sharp blades are used to cut on the resin, small scratches and signs of wear will remain. For this reason, please use the board as a serving board and at most as a snack/picnic board. There are no health hazards here; this is purely an optical damage to the product.
• Please do not place hot objects, such as pans or pots, on the material. Resin will deform slightly above 60°C (e.g., slight indentation from the object). The hotter the object, the greater the damage to the resin.

Sources of danger with wood

Some possible points of danger in connection with wooden serving boards are:

1. Risk of cuts: Sharp knives can damage the wood and lead to sharp edges or splinters, which can cause cuts, especially when cutting food on the board.



2. Hygiene risk: Wood is a porous material that can absorb bacteria and germs if it is not properly cleaned and maintained. This can lead to potential food contamination.

3. Risk of breakage: Wood can be damaged and break due to moisture, heat, or impact, especially if handled or stored improperly.

4. Risk of burns: Wooden serving boards can cause burns if they come into contact with hot pots, pans, or dishes, as wood is not heat-resistant.

5. Allergic reactions: People with wood allergies may react to certain types of wood, which can lead to skin irritation or other allergic symptoms.

It is important to clean wooden serving boards regularly, keep them dry, maintain them carefully, and take appropriate precautions to minimize potential dangers and ensure the safe use of the serving board.

Care instructions for our resin and wood serving boards

For all our products that use resin, we have decided against using harmful solvents.
Thus, each of our products is more environmentally friendly and completely safe for health.

The downside is that our resin boards are not quite as robust as they would be with solvents. However, we are very happy to have made this compromise.

What does this mean for you?

Please do not put your boards in the dishwasher and do not cut on the resin surface. Doing so would leave knife marks behind.

You can wash the board with a cloth and maintain the wood with oil.
You can use the following oils:

Linseed oil:
This is a very fast-drying oil (the fastest of all oils). It is often used for wood impregnation and absorbs very quickly.
Apply the linseed oil very thinly and possibly multiple times. (Always wait until one layer has already dried.)

Olive oil:
Olive oil is a non-drying or "wet" oil. This means: it softens the wood fibers. As a result, the wood surface becomes more resistant to moisture and germs after application. Caution: Remember that olive oil can smell rancid in some cases.

Coconut oil and walnut oil:
Both nut oils protect the wood and also provide a very pleasant scent.

Conclusion:
It is best to use linseed oil to maintain and refresh your serving board for a long time and to protect it particularly intensively due to its deep-penetrating effect.

Production of serving boards and book holders

The book holder or the serving board do not come from Nordkynd. Due to logistics and work efficiency, it makes more sense in this case for us to have these wooden items manufactured and ordered from a professional.

For this, we have found a wonderfully strong partner in Bavaria. So we are staying regional.
We were convinced not only by the quality and the nature of their products, but their company philosophy and clear steps toward greater sustainability also spoke directly to our hearts.

To name just a few: The entire company is powered by solar energy generated on its own roof. This is so efficient that all company and employee electric cars are also charged there. In addition, they provide job bikes!

Origin of the resin

Naturally, we do not produce the resin ourselves either. It is manufactured in a German company and is therefore subject to the strictest regulations.
We chose a company here that (as is important to us) avoids solvents. Thus, one is not exposed to any harmful thinners, neither during processing nor, most importantly, with the finished product.
The resin we use is therefore absolutely harmless in terms of health, so you can use it as a serving board without any second thoughts and serve your food on it.

Furthermore, the quality of the resin is very high. The product exhibits high flexural and compressive strength, excellent elongation at break, and outstanding impact resistance.

Production of the finished product

Once the two raw materials, the wooden product and the resin, have arrived, everything is ready for the creation of our wonderful Seaside final product. So let the magic happen!

We mix the resin, add pigments, and then the pouring begins. It is a little art form in itself, because you cannot really influence the resin. You can do your best to make it look the way you hope in the end. But you only see what it has really turned out like 24 hours later. And even then, one thing or another can still change.

Once the resin has cured after approximately 48 - 72 hours, we process it further. The excess resin is removed, sanded, and the board is finally oiled. And just like that, the Seaside products are ready to enrich your home!
